Groups
Groups are how you choose what shows up in your feed — follow your child's class, a sports team, the band, or a club to get their posts and notifications.
What are groups?
A group is a channel for a class, team, club, or program. When you follow a group, its posts appear in My Feed and you can receive a notification each time it posts. You manage all of this on the My Groups screen.
To open it: sign in, then tap Follow Groups on Home or in your profile.
Public vs. private groups
My Groups lists groups in two sections:
- Public Groups — anyone at your school can find and follow these (marked with a people icon).
- Private Groups — these require a passcode to join (marked with a lock icon).
Each group row shows its name, a member count, and a few small icons (for example, a star for a recommended group, a lock for private, or a muted icon if you've silenced it).
Following and leaving a group
- Find the group on My Groups.
- Flip the switch next to it to follow. To leave, flip it off.
- For a public group, you're added right away. For a private group, you'll be asked for a passcode (see below).
If both sections are empty, you'll see No groups available yet.
Joining a private group with a passcode
Private groups need a passcode, which your teacher, coach, or group leader provides.
- Flip the switch on a private group, and a window appears: This is a private group. Please enter the passcode:
- Don't see the group in the list? Tap Join Group with Passcode at the top and enter the code directly — useful for hidden groups.
- Enter the passcode and tap Join. If it's wrong, you'll see an error and can try again.
Group posts, events, and notifications
- Posts from groups you follow appear in My Feed on Home.
- Notifications are sent for new group posts (unless you mute the group).
- Mute a group: tap the ••• menu on the group and choose Mute notifications. A muted icon then appears next to its name. Choose Turn on notifications to unmute. (You'll still see its posts in the app — muting only stops the push alerts.)
Members, leaders, and owners
Groups have three roles, and what you can do depends on yours:
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Member | Follow the group, read its posts, and mute or unmute its notifications. |
| Leader | Everything a member can do, plus post to the group. |
| Owner | Everything a leader can do, plus manage the group — edit it, add leaders, view the passcode, and delete it. |
Set as Default (for staff and leaders)
If you can post to several groups, you can mark one as your Default from the ••• menu (Set as Default). That group is then pre-selected whenever you create a post, so you don't have to pick it each time. A Default badge appears next to its name. This option only appears for people who can post.
Creating and editing groups (the New button, adding leaders, setting passcodes) is available to staff who have been granted permission and whose email is verified. Most parents and students won't see these options. If you're staff and need group-management access, contact your school administrator.
